Chisme started as a concept by Chef Manuel Bonilla. After his decade of experience in Michelin star restaurants, tiki bars and steak houses he wanted to get back to his Salvadoran/ Filipino roots and make good comfort food for his friends. Starting Chisme at Low Bar he connected with his old co-workers Chris Parker and Tony Martinez to bring life to Bar Chisme. Chris lent his hard work ethic, vision and experience as the most trusted bar worker/patron in Oakland. Tony offered his experience running bar programs around the U.S.
The Three of them agreed to get back to their roots and create a space where they can invite friends and neighbors to hang out, gossip, enjoy a good drink and bite to eat. What better way to do that than to pay homage to those who raised us and invite you all to the proverbial granny's living room? We've been working hard to invite you to our living room. Soon we will party!

Tio's Room is currently under construction. The attic room to our home. The stoner uncle that never left his Mom's house but always had the coolest stuff. We invite you to come up, explore, hang out and chill.
Our vibe is rooted in Y2K, 90's cholo/chicano culture, early hip hop era, and 80's/90's Oakland culture. We're all about nostalgia and the feeling of community.
You'll find a beeper system for orders, corded phone announcements, and places to gossip and leave letters of affection. It's a space where the past feels present and the community bonds over shared experiences.
While we get the house ready for the party we are free to do Pop-Ups and events. Want us at your favorite place or a place of your own we can do that! Hit us up! Try us out! Help us get open faster!
